problem: Dear applicant

8.
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your application. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a position in our local government office for the summer. As you know, funding for summer jobs is limited, and it is impossible for us to offer jobs to all those who want them. Consequently, we are forced to reject many highly qualified applicants.
Which of the following can be inferred from the letter?
(A) The number of applicants for summer jobs in the government office exceeded the number of summer jobs available.
(B) The applicant who received the letter was considered highly qualified.
(C) Very little funding was available for summer jobs in the government office.
(D) The application of the person who received the letter was considered carefully before being rejected.
(E) Most of those who applied for summer jobs were considered qualified for the available positions.

OA- A
a bit of confusion with y nt c...when it is clearly stated in the ques...

Answer is not C because as per OG all questions that asks for "what is inferred from the passage" should talk about something that is NOT explicity stated in the the passage.

Option C talks about "very little funding" that is clearly mentioned in the passage.

Hope this helps!

Since this is asking for the inference, we should be looking for the statement that must be true given the stimuli. I think the answer is E.

Answer should be A,
"impossible for us to offer jobs to all those who want them." One can infer that the no of applicants are more than no of jobs available.
Thanks

passage mentions limited funding.... C says very little funding.
C is adding extra info therefore not the correct inference.

i would chose A.

Cute question.

The argument uses "limited funding" - not "very little". Limited could simply means "not unlimited" - there's a finite amount of dollar in the vaults.

A is indeed implied in the argument: it is impossible for us to offer jobs for all who want them - meaning that there are more people who want jobs that actual jobs available.

Limited fund doesn't mean that funds are not infinite but it may be the case that there is a good amount available but has restriction on how much to be spent for the jobs to be given. Hope this helps.
