Hi,

I am currently working as a Financial Software Developer at Bloomberg LP in NYC. I have completed my masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a GPA of 3.85 from Cornell university. I have couple of years of experience with Lucent Technologies prior to that . I had an excellent academic track record during my undergrad.

Given that Stern has started accepting GRE scores and my GRE score (given for my admission to Cornell) was 1440/1600 and 4.0 AWA .. Do you feel I should still give the GMAT ? What are my chances of getting into the part time MBA program at Stern.

Please advise as time is at a premium as I am aiming for Fall 2010 applications.

Hi krishnathinks,

If it's the part-time Langone program you're interested in at Stern, double check to make sure that they accept the GRE for that program. My understanding is that they still only accept the GMAT, the thinking being that for the part-time program they want people who are more "serious" about business, and have taken the GMAT as part of an overall plan to further their careers in management. For the full-time program, NYU and other top schools are more willing to consider someone who maybe is a little more of the "I'm not 100% sure what I want to do with my life" mindset, and accepting GRE scores is one way to encourage some of these people to consider applying.

Hi Scott,
As rightly pointed out in your link , it asks for -- "Take the GMAT or GRE and TOEFL (if needed) prior to the deadline ".
As they are accepting GRE scores from this year only, I am not sure if my GRE score would suffice to get thro Stern..Any inputs on my chances/profile are welcome.

I think your best bet is still to take the GMAT. That was you leave no question as to your true intention: to earn an MBA.

Assuming that you have some good work experiences to point to, including a track record of success and of increasing responsibility, you should have a decent shot at NYU if you can earn a strong GMAT score.
