Question stem : p and q are positive integers

Stmt I

p-q>n
p=100 q=90 n=1

p-q>n and p,q both greater than n

p=10 q=2 n=6

p-q>n but p,q both arenot greater than n

INSUFF


Stmt II

q>p

No info about n

INSUFF

Stmt I and II together

p-q>n
q>p

Add inequalities above facing the same direction

p-q+q>p+n
p>p+n

The only time this will happen is if n is negative since any positive number(p) cannot be greater than the same positive number p added to another positive number

Since p and q are gven to be positive we found n to be negative therefore p and q are both greater than n

Simpler way: If p-q>n and q>p then p-q must be negative. Since it's given that p and q are both positive therefore p-q is certainly smaller than both p and q.

Cramya,

What he is trying to say is this -

from 1,
p-q>n

from 2, q>p i.e p-q<0

we know p and q are positive integers.
So again from 1, we have n<p-q i.e n< -ve

so both p and q are greater than n

Lets say from 2, q=10 and p =4
p-q=-6

From 1,
n<-6

Hence C

p - q > n

5 -3 > 2
5-1> 4

can't say

but
q > p

so p-q > n

hence n is a negative no. so p and q are always greater than n
