Teruvia

by beatthegmat2910 » Sat Dec 05, 2009 5:11 pm
In Teruvia, the quantity of rice produced per year is currently just large enough to satisfy domestic demand. Teruvia's total rice acreage will not be expanded in the foreseeable future, nor will rice yields per acre increase appreciably. Teruvia's population, however, will be increasing significantly for years to come. Clearly, therefore, Teruvia will soon have to begin importing rice.

A. No pronounced trend of decreasing per capita demand for rice is imminent in Teruvia.
B. Not all of the acreage in Teruvia currently planted with rice is well suited to the cultivation of rice.
C. None of the strains of rice grown in Teruvia are exceptionally high-yielding.
D. There are no populated regions in Teruvia in which the population will not increase.
E. There are no major crops other than rice for which domestic production and domestic demand are currently in balance in Teruvia.

Is the question to strengthen the argument?
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

That's hilarious, viju.

In fact, choice A is correct if it is a strengthen OR an assumption question!

And, in a strengthen question, if you see that one of the answer choices is the author's assumption, then that answer choice is definitely correct. (In strengthen, you are told to treat all of the answer choices as true. Well, if the assumption is true, then the argument is definitely strengthened!)

Hi Testluv,

In case of strengthen question, if it is supporting the assumption ( with more information) and also eliminating threats to the assumption will be regarded as strengthening the argument ..right?

However, in assumption questions, the answer should provide a bridge between the premises and the conclusion. Sometimes, I find it hard to recognize the answer in assumption questions..

Viju

Let me take this question one step further...

B is actually restating the fact of the argument although in a different manner

Dont understand why C is wrong here?
