weekend show

by rahulg83 » Wed May 13, 2009 7:08 pm
Six weekends each year, Alpha Showgrounds are used exclusively for public horse shows. During all other weekends, the grounds are used excleusively as a public market. For its revenues, Alpha depends entierly on admission fees, and revenue from a typcial weekend horse show is far greater than from a typical weekend market. However, Alpha’s annual revenues from the market far exceed its annual revenues from horse shows.

Which of the following strategies, if implemented, would likely provide the greatest boost to Alpha’s revenues?
(A) Increase the fee for admission to the public market, but leave the admission fees for horse shows unchanged.
(B) Increase the fees for admission to the horse shows, but leave the admission fee for the public market unchanged.
(C) Discontinue use of the grounds for horse shows, and schedule the public market for each and every weekend of the year.
(D) Schedule some horse shows for weekdays instead of weekends; and during those weekends, use the grounds as a public market instead.
(E) Schedule some weekend markets for weekdays instead of weekends; and during those weekends, use the grounds for horse shows instead.

OA is E :?

In a year, there are 6 horse weekends and 46 market weekends (52-6).
Best choice would be to have horse show every single weekend, but this is not an option.
A. Since there are many more markets than horses, increasing market while keeping their ratio the same would provide a reasonable boost. keep.
B. A is better since there so many more markets. out.
C. horse has premium over market. this one's out.
D. we don't know what the turn out is like on a weekday. out.
E. how many is "some"? probably still better to go with A.

My answer: A

@rahulg83: what's the source?

just looked at the OA -- WOW!! really?
this question was just bad to begin with. I mean "far greater" and "far exceed" sounds like the kinds of phrases used in wrong answers on OG questions.
