Mr. Smith runs 2 miles every day. In a period of only two months he has lost 8 pounds. If I run 4 miles a day for two months I will lose 16 pounds.

Question : Which of the following statements supports its conclusion in the same manner as the argument above?

(a) It always rains in London, if it is raining you must be in London.

(b) Peter supplements his diet with a glass of orange uice to increase the intake of vitamins, David who drinks apple juice claims apple juice is better.

(c) Rachael's vocabulary improved after trying the Webster dictionary, Lorraine uses an Oxford and a Webster, her vocabulary must be better than Rachael's.

(d) Sundays are holidays if you are working on a Sunday it must not be a Sunday.

(e) If you sleep for eight hours a day you wake up completely refreshed, if you sleep six hours a day you wake up feeling tired.

My answer is C.
I think it is pretty straightforward parallel reasoning:
1mile/day = loose x Kgs thus 2miles/day = loose 2x Kgs

1 dictionary = improved vocab thus 2 dictionaries = much more improved vocab.

Parallel reasoning Qs are rare in GMAT.. however, its good to practice them.
Argument Str is simply compounding a known result to derive another result..exaggeration without any sound proof.

A,B and D are completely ruled out. I have confusion between C and E. I would pick C here.

BTW, wats the source ?

Okay E is incorrect because you alone wake up refreshed or tired... whereas in option C, person A has result attributed a cause and person B is compared with better result due to better causality which is more in line with the passage reasoning[/b]

Reasoning is that X leads to Y , so more of X will lead to more of Y .

The answer choice C does exactly the same. With one dictionary , R improved his vocab. L uses two disctionary , so his vocab should be better than R .

I will remove E bacause 6 hours of sleep leads to "feeling tireness " - more than 6 hours of sleep should lead to "more tireness" for this option to be correct. However, E says you feel refreshed after 8 hours of sleep, that is exactly opposite of wht we want.

What is the OA ?

To me it is btw C and E

IMO : E

Let me rewrite in a junky fashion....
C: If i do cycling and running I can reduce 16 pounds, but Mr.Smith can not read both websterX and "y" dictionary.
E: If I run for 2 hours and sleep 8 hours I can lose weight, if I run for 4 hours and sleep 6 hours my muscles will swell...
