mobile homes

by sumanr84 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:02 am
A newspaper recently reported the story of a group of hunters who found a heavily damaged mobile home suspended in the treetops in a forest. Although mobile homes in many towns in the surrounding area had recently been swept away by tornados, officials suspect that this particular mobile home came from nearby New City, which had been almost completely destroyed by a tornado three months earlier, on March 10.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the officials ' hypothesis about the origin of the mobile home?

a. Many residents of New City and the surrounding areas live in trailer homes.
b. A calendar found inside the mobile home was turned to March 10.
c. Weather stations widely reported the tornado of March 10.
d. Sales of this particular brand of mobile home have been very strong in New City and other surrounding towns for the past six months.
e. Decals supporting the nearby State University football team were found on the mobile home.

we need to support the officialss hypothesis that the mobile home came from new city, right?
A. out of scope
B. says the time the tornado happened, on march 10th, and this tornado, according to the argument was from new city ( the correct answer)
C. out of scope
D there is no ways to determine whether the mobile home came from New City or came from other surrounding towns
E. out of scope
Thus my OA is B

IMO C

A, D, E out of scope

Rely on weather reports rather than a calendar page

So i would have chosen C

IMO B

Between B and C, B has more weight. C is the fact of the argument. We can not strengthen the fact. We need to support the conclusion, which says that the found mobile home is from NEW CITY.

OA : B

b. A calendar found inside the mobile home was turned to March 10.

What I am confused with is that how can calendar turned to March 10 is serving as a proper evidence. Calendar can turn to any date in tornado due to wind. It wasn't a digital calender right that just got broken in the tornado ??...It was turned so it must be Paper based calendar.

How can we take such things into accountability ? Please help me with this.

Premise : There was a tornado of March 10.

Wrong C -> Just re-stating this premise. It is not providing any extra new evidence.

Right B --> We already know that there was a tornado of March 10 ( from above premise)
Now B is giving a evidence/support that the house was a part of that tornado.

Agreed. This is not the best piece of evidence you'll ever find, but it's the strongest of the lot.
