Hi tompa,
The admissions committee will take into account what your university registrar sends them in terms of cumulative GPA and class rank. The class rank is extremely helpful and will make your GPA look better.
That being said, you may want to explain why you were getting F's at the beginning of college in your optional essay. Generally if you mess up a little at the beginning of college and then go on to excel it won't be a huge problem for you.
Good luck!

How do Grad Schools calculate a U.S. undergrad GPA?
Source: Beat The GMAT — Ask Stacy Blackman |
To add to what Amy said... some schools have you self-report your grades, and won't even check their validity until after you've been admitted. Tuck has an excel file that you need to download and self-report your transcript (class, date, grate, etc.)
Yes, that is the case.
Remember, however, that you must self-report your grades accurately! Integrity in your application is extremely important, due to some recent scandals all MBA programs employ services that will scour your background to make sure you are truthful on your application.

I'm just letting tompa know that schools don't "just rely on what the university states the cum GPA is" or "have some sort of method in calculating it themselves", rather, they rely on what you tell them it is.
