by singhupinder » Fri Apr 15, 2011 10:08 am
I've got my GMAT on the 19th.. Following are my test scores

Power Prep 1 640
GMAT Prep 1 710
MGMAT 1 700
MGMAT 2 680
MGMAT 3 730
MGMAT 4 730
GMAT Prep 2 700
MGMAT 5 730
Re GMATprep 1 710

I repeated the GMAT prep 2 today and got a score of 690.I'm a little bit disappointed as I was hoping to score atleast a 700. Iam hoping to score 700 in my GMAT. Should I give the prep 2 once more or should I just relax and straight away go in for the main exam??

Hey Singhu,

If I had to guess, I'd say that one of the driving factors in your score dipping a little bit today is fatigue...you've been studying for a while, it's the end of the week and you're trying to fit in one more test, and you probably made a couple careless errors that you ordinarily wouldn't.

Which is pretty common and brings me to my advice - rest up! At this point I don't think there's very much you can learn from one more practice test, but squeezing one more in can wear you down a little before your actual exam. So I think the return is minimal compared to the risk.

Where you can learn is by going back to your recent tests - especially that recent one in which you may very well have missed a question or two that you've previously gotten right - and catching the few mistakes that you did make when you were tired or distracted so that you can look out for that kind of thing on test day. I'd use the next couple days to remind yourself:

1) What you do well and which thought processes you want to repeat on test day
2) Which mistakes you know you're prone to making and that you want to look out for on test day

At this point, you're close enough to the test and have done enough work already that I doubt you'll learn more about the GMAT between now and then, but you can learn a little bit more about yourself and the ways in which you need to be on top of your game come the 19th, so make that your secondary focus, and resting up so that you're in the zone on test day your top priority.
