OA : After some Reply.
IMO B
A Tough question.....well i find some parallelism issue in choices A, C and D...see above in RED color, between B and E, i think the use of THEM in Op E is ambiguous...so IMO its B
The clock option is not working in my web browser but i think i took almost 2 mins in this question...

IMO C maintains //lism

a school should be designed as a laboratory XXXXXXXXX, and as an embryonic community XXXXXXXXXX rather than as a mere purveyor of abstract knowledge

The only thing that bothers me in C is usgae of "Where". If I am correct, "Where" is used to refer to physical location since "embryonic Community" is more of an imagination "where" is not correct here.

But C is best among rest.

Please share the source of the problem.

Took about 2.5 mints, IMO- C

A. a school should be designed as a laboratory, in which children may develop their potential through the integration of experience and learning, and also as an embryonic community exposing them to the principles of democracy, rather than just teaching abstract knowledge

B. rather than just teaching abstract knowledge, schools should be designed as laboratories, in which children develop their potential by integrating experiencing and learning and are exposed to the principles of democracy as are members of an embryonic community

C. a school should be designed as a laboratory, in which children may develop their potential by integrating experience and learning, and as an embryonic community, where they are exposed to the principles of democracy, rather than as a mere purveyor of abstract knowledge

D. schools should be designed as laboratories, in which children may develop their potential by integrating experience and learning, rather than just teaching abstract principles, and as an embryonic community that exposes them to the principles of democracy ( misplaced modifier)

E. a school should be designed as a laboratory, in which children may develop their potential by integrating experiencing and learning, rather than just acquiring abstract knowledge; it should also be an embryonic community, that exposes them to democratic principles. ( changed the meaning by making two independent clauses)

1 minute 35 seconds. It should be C . But in exam , I might have taken longer to verify the AC :) .

I got the structure so was lucky .

a school should be designed as X <relative clause modifier>and as Y <relative clause modifier> rather than as Z
