1000 sc - 783 Confused

The most favorable locations for the growth of glaciers, rather than being the cold, dry polar regions, would be instead the cool, moist middle latitudes, where there is abundant precipitation and where it is cold enough to allow some snow to accumulate year by year.

(A) glaciers, rather than being the cold, dry polar regions, would be instead the cool, moist middle latitudes
(B) glaciers are not the cold, dry polar regions but the cool, moist middle latitudes
(C) glaciers are the cool, moist middle latitudes rather than the cold, dry polar regions
(D) glaciers, instead of being the cold, dry polar regions, would be the cool, moist middle latitudes
(E) glaciers are, instead of the cold, dry polar regions, rather the cool, moist middle latitudes

Confused between
B & C. Why C is wrong and B is correct. In case if C changes meaning please elaborate how?
in C the phrase underlined and the last phrase can not go together. it is not logic

remember

gmat has one right sentence.

gmat change grammar to create 2 wrong sentences which are not grammatical. it is easy to realize these sentences because they have mechanical grammar error

gmat change meaning (or distort focus) to create 2 wrong sentences which are not logic or have distorted meaning. It is hard to realize these sentences and this error is focus of gmat test.

alway to remember to lood into differences among answer choices to realize errors.

Its between B and C . The later part of sentence "where...." refers to moist middle latitudes not the cold , dry region
so B seems to be the correct choice .

(B) glaciers are not the cold, dry polar regions but the cool, moist middle latitudes, where there is abundant precipitation and where it is cold enough to allow some snow to accumulate year by year.

(C) glaciers are the cool, moist middle latitudes rather than the cold, dry polar regions
