I have been preparing for GMAT for the past 2 months and below are my GMAT prep scores...(except for couple of days, I spent almost 3 hrs/day studying for the exam)

GMATPrep Q20 V20 ---420 (1st Aug10)
GMATPrep Q27 V31 ---490 (15th Aug10)
GMATPrep Q18 V23 ---480 (27th Sept10)
GMATPrep Q29 V23 ---450 (28th Sept10)

I thought quant is going to be tough for me as I am kind of not good at math, but seems like I suck even at the verbal part.

I am totally discouraged when I saw the trend of the scores yesterday and it even made me question my capabilities to appear for the GMAT Test. It has been my dream to study in United States, but seems like I may not be able to make it. Does it make sense for me to move forward with my prep? What strategy should I use? and how to target the weak areas? I have gone through the prep tests and reviewed what went wrong, but seems like I lack that logical/analytical streak , as I seem to make same kind of mistakes over n over again.

Resources that I have used to prepare for the exam are

OG12
KAPLAN premier 2011 with CD and online
MGMAT SC and RC books

I got the info on the resources from this forum and am thankful to all of you for such wonderful guidance and suggestions.

But is there any hope for me to raise my scores? I am looking for a target score of 650+

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hi RSM,

The best advice I can give to is to keep an error log. Whenever you get a question incorrect, type it into your excel spreadsheet. After a while you will start to notice a pattern. From there you can see where your weakness are and target them.

I used to be horrible at rate and work problems. I didnt really see the pattern until I started keeping the error log. After I noticed that I consistently screwed up those questions, I began to seek out those types and work them until my eyes bled. Now, I am good at rate/work problems.

Figure out whats holding you back, and instead of doing more of the same, make a change.

Dont give up! You can do this!

Trust me, it's very possible!

You might want to consider hiring a tutor, or maybe check out Grockit, which has a lot of fine folks discussing OG-esque questions and answers. I am one of those fine folks =).

Thank you for your kind words tlt. I have completed 2 rounds of OG12 math questions. I understand I am making some errors. But seems like I am falling into the trap answer everytime. I sure need a diff. strategy

Ive improved my score from solid 500 to solid 620 in practice tests. It took me about 4 months to do it though! I understand your frustration. I am now frustrated with my 600-630 range despite improving myself by a 100 points. The truth is, you can improve, but it will be a real struggle. You have to forget this year admission cycle, and start preparing for the next years. Be consistant in your studies. Buy as much material as you can afford. Breakthroughs wount be made by making the same mistake 100 times, but by someone or something pointing out your misstakes a 100 times. This community is here to support you.
