I was also thinking of applying to Singapore unis. But how are the job prospects there? Esp. for the kind OF profile I am looking for?

Hello,

Thanks for your detailed information. Allow me to break down your profile:

Academics: Unfortunately, your academic profile is not very strong for top 10 MBA programs. A 660 GMAT and a 62% in university is not very strong compared to other IT applicants. Still, I think you'll be in the competitive range for some of the programs on your list.

Professional experience: Deloitte is a great company. However, it seems that your role is more technical in nature, which puts you at a disadvantage in terms of your ability to demonstrate business proficiency and leadership capability.

Community: You've been highly active in the community and have taken a lot of leadership responsibility here. This is great and will help you stand out. The only caveat here is that most of your initiatives seem to be associated with Deloitte, rather than initiatives you took completely on your own. This may be considered firm leadership/stewardship moreso than community leadership.

Extracurricular: Seems like you were involved during undergrad but that you don't have as much in terms of post-grad extracurricular activities. Still, college was recent enough for you that you can probably use a story from that time period.

All in all, I think you should target schools in the range of UNC and down from your list. Haas and Booth are somewhat unrealistic with your current profile. Ross would be a reach. You could perhaps shoot for a Duke or UCLA, but really I would focus your energies on UNC, CMU, Marshall, etc.

A couple additional points:
- Most applicants apply to 4-6 programs in application season due to the demanding nature of each application. You may wish to cut down your list, depending on your time constraints.

- Your career narrative is currently not a very realistic one. You should think of your career narrative as one coherent story - your long term goal should logically follow from your short term goal, business school and past experience. So, jumping from being a technologist in oil and gas to a marketer in hospitality industry to an entrepreneur is not a very logical or coherent story and not a very realistic path. Schools pay attention to this and want to know that candidates have really thought through their career goals and that they have a realistic, while still ambitious, grasp on what it takes to achieve them. Being an entrepreneur in the long run is fine, but how can you get more specific about that goal and relate it in some way to what you do now (tech related, or oil/gas related?). What steps do you need in between to get there?

Another school you may wish to look at if you are really interested in entrepreneurship is Babson and maybe also Georgetown.

As for the Singapore universities, this depends on where you want to build your career. If you want to be based in Asia, than Singapore could be a great place to do your MBA. I suggest you research where MBA grads from Singapore schools end up taking jobs - this will give you a good sense.

Good luck,
Mili
