GMAT Score:760
Hi,

I need some inputs from you guys about the workings of the CAT. I am a bit confused here and cant judge where i stand in terms of the score. My GMAT is scheduled for the 7th of June.

I started preparing for the GMAT back in Feb. Got the Manhattan series and went through them in a month. Although, they did help me a lot, i decided to enroll in Knewton. Now after 4 months of prep, i feel like i am at a point of stagnation. My test scores over the past 4 months are as follows...[in chronological order]
Q V
Knewton Diagnostic 45 39 680
Practice GMAT #1 47 41 720 [5 wrong in Q, 5 in V]
Practice GMAT #2 48 36 700 [4 wrong in Q, 12 in V]
Practice GMAT #3 49 32 680
Manhattan Free CAT 50 37 710
GMAT PREP 1 49 44 750 [8 wrong in Q, 9 in V]
Practice GMAT #4 48 33 680 [4 wrong in Q, 8 in V]

Where am I? Am I a 750 or a 680??

Thanks a lot
Adi

Adi, you are closer to 750 than to 680.

GMAT Prep uses the same algorithm as the original test. Need I say more? Don worry too much about your scores in MGMAT and other test prep companies' tests. They are close to the test but not exact.

Just review them, take your learnings and ignore.

At the end of the day, the only score that will matter is the one on the actual test. So take a chill pill. You are doing great. :)
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

There you go!!

Congratulations!

It is very useful when people update with their actual score. It helps put it all in perspective.

Veritas research has shown that on average the score on the actual GMAT is about 10 to 20 points higher than on GMATPrep (assuming that you have not taken the GMATPrep several times - which you clearly had not).

Here you were feeling stagnation and worry and yet you went in and took the test and got your score. 4 months is long enough to study before getting in there and taking a shot.

For others, Brian Galvin has written about this phenomenon that people study for WAY too long before they get in there and take the test. To paraphrase him, you should think about each time you take the GMAT as ONE GMAT exam out of a possible 3 or 4, not as THE GMAT exam. Don't study for years and keep putting off the exam; here is Adi who was unsure but went through with the test and got a great score. Even if this first test had not been a 760 the option is always there to retake.

Congratulations on a great score!

Thanks David,

I think a very important point you mention is that the test should not be viewed as THE GMAT, rather people should try and think of it as another practice test. I know it's easier said than done, but it really helps the nerves.
