Authoritative parents are more likely than permissive parents to have children who as adolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.

A. Authoritative parents are more likely than permissive parents to have children who as adolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.
B. Authoritative parents who are more likely than permissive parents to have adolescent children that are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.
C. Children of authoritative parents, rather than permissive parents, are the more likely to be self-confident, have a high self-esteem, and to be responsibly independent as adolescents.
D. Children whose parents are authoritative rather than being permissive, are more likely to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and be responsibly independent when they are an adolescent.
E. Rather than permissive parents, the children of authoritative parents are the more likely to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and to be responsibly independent as an adolescent.


OA A why is D wrong passive voice?

D -- is wrong because

i.) use of "being"..is a gmat error
ii.) you are describing the qualities of "children when they are adolescent..In D ...they are scattered all over the place..

Answer is A
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

Hello friends, I have a doubt with the OA.

I feel A and C are strong contenders.Lets have a look on both of these sentences.
A. Authoritative parents are more likely than permissive parents to have children who as adolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.
The red color modifier "more likely than " modifies the red color"to have". Please notice the distance of the modifier from "to have"
C. Children of authoritative parents, rather than permissive parents, are themore likely to be self-confident, have a high self-esteem, and to be responsibly independent as adolescents.
here the modifier is placed next to what it is modifying.

I certainly feel C is the answer. However I find "the" (in BOLD) to be awkward. I can't find a way to eliminate C other than this reason. The structure of the sentence is :

Children of X, rather than Y are more likely to be self confident......

I would appreciate your opinions.

the construction "Children of X, rather than Y are more likely to be self confident...... " is wrong as it seems to compare children (of authoritative parents) with permissive parents.

IMO - A

option C is wrong ....

Manhattan sentence correction guide 3rd edition says - " the infinitive should be either be placed before all the the verbs or they can be omitted from second infinitive onwards .....

For example

It is critical to suspend activities, to notify investors and to say nothing .

OR


It is critical to suspend activities, notify investors and say nothing .

IN OPTION C - " to be self-confident, have a high self-esteem, and to be responsibly independent as adolescents.

From second element of the series- "have a high self esteem " infinitive to is missing . this makes option C incorrect.

This question appears in OG 12 as question number 108 . The credited response is A.

I choose C over A. But, after the explanation understood the probs.

Here is some insight on Ans D

D. Children whose parents are authoritative rather than being permissive, are more likely to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and be responsibly independent when they are an adolescent.

The following parallele elements seems to be wrong
to have Self-confidence
to have a high self-esteem
to have be responsibly independent

Please let me know whether the below sentence is correct,

Children whose parents are authoritative rather than being permissive, are more likely to have self-confidence, a high self-esteem, and independent responsiblity when they are an adolescent.

correct me if i am wrong,

I just think the C changes the meaning of the sentence. The original sentence compares the likelihood of parents to have confident children while C focuses on the likelihood of children to be confident. They are different things.
