It's always better to talk about your leadership experiences in terms of what the situation was, what your actions were and what was the final quantified impact you had.

Leadership

If you have been handling a team for a few years you will for sure have a lot of milestones and successes to talk about. Even if you have not been in a direct leadership role you can talk about experiences where in you have motivated people, planned and executed projects with impact. And impact here would have to be something significant.

• Were you able to improve a business metric related to revenue or to cost?
  Were you able to bring about a change to lives of people around you?
  Did you manage a crises well? If so what was the final result.
  Did you go ahead and take initiative when other backed out and drove a project to completion?
  Have you ever motivated a set of individuals when chips were down? Did they do better as a team afterwards?

If you have done any of the above, or a similar experience, you have displayed leadership and team skills. Talk about such experiences in your essays.

App story

Your app story finally stands on the pillars of your leadership situations, professional achievements, personal milestones and long term goals. These need to be woven into your essays for a streamlined, flawless and consistent storyline.
Such an approach will put a very clear, concise and positive face to your application and admission committee would definitely want to give you airtime.
