It's always better to talk about your leadership experiences in terms of what the situation was, what your actions were and what was the final quantified impact you had.
Leadership
If you have been handling a team for a few years you will for sure have a lot of milestones and successes to talk about. Even if you have not been in a direct leadership role you can talk about experiences where in you have motivated people, planned and executed projects with impact. And impact here would have to be something significant.
App story
Your app story finally stands on the pillars of your leadership situations, professional achievements, personal milestones and long term goals. These need to be woven into your essays for a streamlined, flawless and consistent storyline.
Such an approach will put a very clear, concise and positive face to your application and admission committee would definitely want to give you airtime.
