Houseful Furniture House

by sanju09 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 10:40 pm
Bradley buys few tables and chairs from Houseful Furniture House for his new office. If he spent a total of $1980 on this acquisition, how many chairs did Bradley buy?
(1) At Houseful Furniture House, each table costs Bradley $108 and each chair costs Bradley $48.
(2) Earlier, Bradley received a fair quotation from the Houseful Furniture House that states that 10 tables and 20 chairs would cost him $2040.

Tables, T = x
Chairs, C = y

xT + yC = 1980

To find: "y"

Statement 1:
T = 108
C = 48
108x + 48y = 1980
9x + 4y = 165
x = 1, y = 39
x = 5, y = 30
INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
10T + 20C = 2040
T + 2C = 204
T = 200, C = 2 ==> 200x + 2y = 1980 ==> x = 9 & y = 90
T = 10, C = 97 ==> 10x + 97y = 1980 ==> x = 101 & y = 10
INSUFFICIENT

Combining...
T = 108,
C = 48,
We cannot comment on X & y
