Each week, Harry is paid x dollors per hour for the first 30 hours and 1.5xdollors for each additional hour worked that week.

H = 30x + 1.5x(H->additional)

Each week, James is paid x dollors per per hour for the first 40 hours and 2x dollors for each additional hour worked that week.

J = 40x + 2x(J->additional)

Last week James worked a total of 41 hours If Harry and James were paid the same amount last week, how many hours did Harry work last week ?
J ames worked for 41 hours.
means J = 40x + 2x = 42x

Now, 42x = 30x + 1.5x(H->additional)
12x = 1.5x(H->additional)
H->additional = 12/1.5 = 8

Hence Harry worked for 8 additional hours.
Total = 30+8 = 38 hours.

Hope this helps!!

Plug in x=2.
James gets $2 per hour for the first 40 hours and 2*2=$4 for each additional hour.
41 hours = 2*40 + 4 = $84.
Harry gets $2 per hour for the first 30 hours.
2*30 = $60 for the first 30 hours.
Harry and James must each make $84.
84-60 = $24 left for Harry.
Harry gets 1.5*2 = $3 for each additional hour.
24/3 = 8 hours.
30+8 = 38 hours total.

The correct answer is D.
