Both conditions are not sufficient alone
ex. when x=2 and y=1 x>y but 1/x<1/y

from 2-- either x or y is negative but which one we don't know

combining both ..x is negative and y is positive
hence X<Y--- sufficient

Ans option C

liferocks,

i think statement 1 is sufficient to tell us that x will never be less than y, as their reciprocal follow the less than relation.

in other words, if 1/x < 1/y, X will be greater than Y.

please correct me if I'm wrong.

IMO A

@harshavardhanc
if 1/x<1/y
we get y<x if xy is positive
and y>x..if xy is negative

is this not correct?
