What's the source of this?

I think you are correct in your application. I think what threw you off was the word "first time" in the first question. (I am assuming you picked A in Q2).

before commenting on these problems, i'd like to know the source, as it's possible that the usage here will clash with that endorsed by gmac.

are these problems from 1000sc? if so, then, as i have stated in multiple other posts, you should stay away from 1000sc; almost every single post in 1000sc -- except for the ones that have been lifted from OG and GMAT PREP -- is flawed in some way; many of the flaws are extremely serious.

if the problems are from a source other than 1000sc, then i will consider analyzing them; if they are from 1000sc, then i will respond simply by saying "don't use 1000sc".
there is plenty to be learned from the official problems (og12, og supplement, gmat prep); those are better places to spend your time.

I have come across a similar discussion on a previous BTG thread but no completely sure I'm understanding it.

https://www.beatthegmat.com/the-western- ... 16-15.html

I found the first problem(which I hear is from SC 1000) after seeing the second problem, which is supposedly from an old OG(not sure what edition though).

Any insights you guys might have on an approach for these problems?
