Hello,

I have had a strange GMAT testing experience. On one take my score had a high Quant component (Q48) but low verbal component (V30) and in another take I had a high Verbal component (V41) but low Quant component (Q42). I'm looking to apply to full time programs, are there schools out there that except the higher score from multiple tests? Combination will give me 720 (Q48, V41).

Also, are there schools that prefer a higher verbal component? As I'd rather use the latest score of 680 which is 80% with 92% verbal and highlight high quant score previously and also previous Quant heavy work load in undergraduate.

Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks

some schools will look at your highest individual scores but yet report (to the ranking publications) the average of the highest scores in one sitting. each school is different though but I've heard straight from some AdCom members that they do take into consideration your highest individual scores. conversely, other schools not only solely take your highest combined score but they also will give preference to those who have high scores after 1 sitting and not 3/4.

This seems like a valid point.

If an applicant scores 730 after 4 attempts and another applicant scores 720 on the first attempt, other thing beings equal, will the adcoms prefer the latter's performance? OR will they prefer the former's perserverance?

Nah. Nobody's gonna "accept" such a score, cause it's not your score. But if you have to go with one of the two, go with the more balanced one, even with the lower quant.

Hi Jon,

Here is a question:
Are we allowed to suggest the adcoms what score they should use? I think, the adcoms get the full report from all the attempts, and the applicant will not be able to influence the choice.

Your post suggests that one can 'go' with a score of one's choice. I am skeptical about that.

If I remember correctly, when you fill out the application for said school it will ask you to input your GMAT score with the percentiles. I can't remember if there are multiple slots, but if not then I think what he's saying is to put in the more balanced score into THAT section of the application. Sure the school will then get the score report and be able to see your other scores.

Hey,
maybe something is getting crossed in the wires, but schools always use only your highest FULL score, and no school I know of will take a mix of part from one and the part from the other. So, no, you don't CHOOSE which score is taken. If you have multiple scores the highest is simply taken.

Is that better?
