Advice on 550 score

by kellyeroses » Wed Nov 21, 2007 3:08 pm
Hello, Eric suggesting posing my questions that I posted under another topic to you.

Well, I just arrived home after a grueling day taking the GMAT. I had hoped to break 600 as I am looking to apply to schools in the top 25 but not top 10 (University of Indiana, University of North Carolina, Ohio State, University of Maryland).

27 Q, 38 V 550 Total

I am thinking that re-taking it would be my best option although I was trying to apply for January deadlines which would be tight at this point to restudy and apply for those deadlines.

Could a 550 be good enough to get in to any of the schools above along with a decent GPA, good recommendations and 5 years of work experience (in your opinion)?

Is it horrible to apply in the last round of deadlines should I just post-pone my plans a year?

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Bummed about the GMAT!

Hi kellyeroses,

I'm sorry to hear you didn't do as well as you had hoped. My short answer is that you should definitely retake the test if you have the time to study and do well while also writing your essays and putting your effort into a great application.

With GMAT scores, it's usually best/safest to feel confident if you are hitting around the mean. That being said, the process is holistic and the GMAT is one data point. If your GPA is strong there will probably still be some questions about your GMAT, but it may help you.

I would suggest trying to retake the GMAT, doing your best to make the January deadlines, and then possibly trying again next year if it doesn't work out this year.

Good luck!
