HSPA wrote:"paste of curshed bug" sounds different but I copied your input

-ing forms modifies the noun and describes the action(verb) of the preceding clause

Thank you atul
Wel u can understand my point in this way...actually millipede is a kind of bug only..so monkey crush that bug and rub the remains on their body...and that act as insecticide...to explain u i use the word paste instead of remains

One more thing, be careful, The thing i said about the -ing form is valid only when they come after COMMA...if there is no COMMA they modify the immediate preceding noun...

Yeah, as I think a few others mentioned, too, the problem with A, B, and C is that they each follow the modifier "ONE of the most intelligent..." with "Capuchins" (plural), so the modifier and subject disagree numerically. And that's about it...the rest of the sentence works perfectly fine (it's parallel, logical, etc.) but the numerical agreement problem does it in.
Hey Brian,
is it grammatically wrong to say
"The Capuchins are one of the most intelligent monkeyss in the world."
"The Sikhs are one of the best soldiers in the world "
I can see that C maybe wrong for another reason as well.
There is a singular pronoun "its"in the non underlined portion of the SC.

Hey Atul,

Wow, great catch there...you're 100% correct that "the monkey uses his intelligence to create an insecticide" is illogical - the sentence needs to set up a metaphor (it's like he's creating an insecticide) as choice E does.

Really good catch - I was looking at the fact that C corrected the error that I saw in D, but C introduced a whole new one (in addition to the parallelism error).

I'm psyched to see you paying attention to that logic - really well-written questions will often have those logical problems in them, so if you're looking for that it adds a big dimension to your ability to solve these.

Mundasingh - good point on that singular "its" after the underline to hammer home the importance of a singular noun "Capuchin". I'm just about certain that some cases similar to your examples (maybe "the Chicago Bulls are one of the most recognizable teams in the world") would be grammatically okay, but I'm even more confident that one of your greatest advantages on GMAT SC is that you only have to recognize differences between answer choices. In this case, I don't think you could correctly say that "The Capuchins are one of the most intelligent monkeys" (because Capuchins are monkeys...that would be like saying "the three brothers are one of the wealthiest men"), but you could probably say that "The Capuchins are one of the most intelligent species". (because Capuchins only encompass one species). But since this question looks to require a direct decision between singular and plural, it's a quicker decision - "Capuchin" (singular) doesn't introduce any problems with "one" as a modifier, so you can't eliminate it, but "Capuchins" (plural) is suspect at best. And if that's the decision point you see left, "suspect" is as good as "definitely wrong" if the other remaining choice looks flawless.

I would go with E .

the most intelligent -- > the cappuchin => eliminates A , B and C .

In D "it" after and makes me to eliminate the option .
Thanks & Regards,
