hi,
for many weeks,i have this doubt about the use of coordinating conjunction.please take a close look on the use of comma and the use of coordinating conjunction.
coordinating conjunction,i believe,is used in the following contexts-
1. i like football and cricket. (when and is used to join element that are not clauses)
2.i like football, and i like cricket. (when joining two clauses)(use of comma + and is correct here)
3.i like football, cricket, and ufc. (use of comma+and is correct here)
4.i like to go to a place where hotels are cheap and where cars for rent are easily available.
5.i like to go to a place where hotels are cheap, where cars for rent are easily available, and where roads are nice.
coordinating conjunction,i think,is wrong in these sentences-
1.i like football,and cricket.
2.i like football and i like cricket.
3.i like to go to a place where hotels are cheap, and where cars for rent are easily available.
now,if my above knowledge is correct then how do we justify the usage of and(coordinating conjunction) in the following sentences-
1.Research has shown that when speaking, individuals who have been blind from birth and have thus never seen anyone gesture nonetheless make hand motions just as frequently and in the same way as sighted people do,and that they will gesture even when conversing with another blind person.
2.In this year's negotiations, unionized workers will be fighting to improve job security in many industries, but will be seeking large wage increases in some other, as in the prospering telecommunications industry.
3.A peculiar feature of the embryonic mammalian circulatory system is that in the area of the heart the cells adhere to one another, beating in unison, yet adopting specialized orientations exclusive of one another.
4.this one i read today in NYTIMES.
Councilman James Vacca, the chairman of the City Council's transportation committee, said that the spread of taxi apps had the potential to create a "two-tiered taxi system" in the city: one for people "with fancy smartphones" who are asked to pay a premium, and one for everybody else.
i wonder how do we use comma+and (or other coordinating conjunction) in the above sentences?
if ,and is not used in a list and is serving to join two independent clauses then it must have a subject in the second clause too.
kindly clarify the doubts..thanking in advance
