3.10 for 1/5th of a mile, and 0.40 for additional 1/5 of a mile.

8 miles = 40/5 miles i.e it has forty 1/5 miles.

total charge = 3.10 + 39 * 0.40 = 3.10 + 15.60 = 18.70
