Sending scores to Schools

Hi,

I wanted to know if there is an additional fee if one wants to send his scores to different schools some days / months after taking the exam.

Also if he does not choose any schools on the exam day, will that quota of free school reports be saved for later use.

In short I am not sure currently in which schools I will apply. My aim is to first get done with the GMAT and then focus on the place. Also the score range will determine to some extent where I would apply.

So I wanted to know if it was possible to do that later on for free or is there some fee per report.

Yes there is an additional fee for sending to additional schools after your test... I think it's $40 per school.

I am in a similar situation. Assuming you take the test twice, is it better to send all scores to a school or just your latest score? I understand that your school sees all your scores anyway so there's no harm in filling up your existing school selection slots.... or am I wrong?

When you take the test do you have to know the codes for the 5 schools you want your scores to go to, or can you just type in the names? How does that work?

Hi Albert,

Don't worry about looking up school codes before taking the test. You actually won't be allowed to bring the codes into the test with you. However, you will be able to look up the schools by name on the testing computer before the test. It's best to send the scores to the top 5 schools you are considering, since it is free to send scores at that point in time. Later, it costs $26 per school.

Whatever specific school / program you want to send it to. eg, you'll choose Harvard Business School, not Harvard University, and Haas School of Business, not University of California - Berkeley.

The 5 "freebies" are NOT saved up for later - you can choose the 5 for free while you're sitting in there (before the test starts) or you can pay for however many you want later. Also, minor note: the cost for additional reports is $28 per, not $26.

jsl - you're right - if you take it a second time, you might as well send to five new schools! Most of the time - there are a couple of caveats:
1) if it's been years since you last took the exam, send it to the same schools again (if you're still planning to apply)
2) the vast majority of schools get electronic reports but some are still on the old "get a piece of paper in the mail" plan. If you apply to a school that still gets paper reports, and you take the test a second time, they won't get the second report unless you send it to them again. Most schools don't get paper reports but, if you're concerned, just contact that school's admissions department and ask whether you need to select them a second time when you take the test again.
