Hi folks,
I am not sure if I am posting at the right forum.
I gave the GMAT for the second time on 22nd June and got 640, first attempt 650. Am seriously shocked to see both the results and am very disappointed.
Main reason for my disappointment is that in my practice tests I hardly scored below 700 in my 12 previous attempts.
last test scores
MGMAT :- 770
730
750
770

GPrep :- 760
770(Q 50 ; verbal 46)
720(gave this at night and was very sleepy)
780 (Q 50 ; verbal 48)

I expected atleast 700 on the main exam but was horrified to view the results (640 :- Q47 V32).

I thought, the first attempt could have been a bad day or some bad luck, but didn't expect History to repeat itself.

Even when I just learnt a few SC rules (without practicing RC,CR or Quant) I got a 660 for GPREP 5 months ago. I was slightly tensed during my first attempt but was completely calm during my second attempt.

I solved the OG11 3 times & OG12 twice
LSAT RC (15 sets) --> Accuracy 80%
LSAT CR (18 sets) --> Accuracy 85%

Is there anyone who knows anything regarding getting my GMAT exam revaluated. I just want to get some peace of mind and want know that there was no glitch during the exam.
Does anyone have any information for me to connect with the GMAT administrators and voice my concern? I would be grateful for any information, please respond.

Thanks a lot guys.
I apologize for being a silent lurker all this while in this forum. I was waiting for my oppurtunity to post a decent GMAT score but that just never arrived :(

Please contact me at [email protected] if anyone has any details.

Hi Brian,

The first question the experts and instructors from the major prep companies will ask, did you emulate the test conditions i.e do the AWA with every practice test, and take both sections with the 6-8 min break?

Yes did that.

Did the AWA sections for all the GMAT Prep tests and around 50% of the MGMAT tests. Took 5 minutes break appropriately.

Can I request for a re-evaluation of my test ?

Hey Brian, really sorry to hear that your exam day didn't go as planned--if you want to contact GMAC, I suggest that you take a look at their policies for reaching out to them for re-evaluation in the 2010 GMAC Bulletin.

They have contact info there. Please let us know how it goes, good luck!

Hi haveto,
Check this link --> https://www.mba.com/community/blogs/offi ... score.aspx

I posted my concern but received the standard expected answer "Our test results are doubled checked and verified"

:(

Brian

Brian, if you're still suspicious, I would still call the # in the Bulletin. It doesn't hurt at this point!

Hi Brian,
I actually had a similar experience. I took the gmat for the 1st time about a year ago after doing a Kaplan course and studying for 3 months and to my absolute horror I got a 640. My practice exams (9 Kaplan ones) had pointed to to a range of 680 - 730. I actually stopped studying for a year because I was so traumatized (no joke on the traumatized part). Anyways, a few months ago, I realized I needed to pick it up again in order to get my applications in for the 1st round, so I went through all the MGGMAT books, the OG books and did 4 exams (2 were the official ones, results were 690-710). I figured my scores might have been a bit inflated because I recognized 3 questions or so from the verbal section of each of the exams. Either way though I figured I just HAD to do better than the first time. I came out with a 630. I was so shocked that I just sat there staring at the screen thinking the number just had to be wrong. I seriously couldn't believe that I would actually get a score that was lower than the first time. Anyways, my final conclusion is that the way the gmat is set up (as an adaptive test (that relies more on the beginning questions) and one that has approximately 25% (?) experimental questions that doesn't actually count towards your grade), there is a greater chance that you may hit outside your range due to luck of the draw. For example, if you happen to get a couple wrong in the beginning and the ones that you got right were the experimental ones, then it'll be really hard for you to recover. In my case, I think there was some of that and I also think that I was overconfident which caused me to make some careless mistakes. I think the 630 is not my real range and will take the exam again soon. I strongly suggest that you do the same since it definitely appears that the GMAT tests did not reflect your true capability. I just wanted to let you know that two flukes are unfortunately quite possible.
