Found even in ancient Egyptian mummies

by rakeshd347 » Thu Oct 10, 2013 3:23 am
Found even in ancient Egyptian mummies, the parasitic Guinea worm became the focus of a
global public health campaign in 1986; this species of parasite has
declined for two decades,
and may finally be eradicated from the earth by 2010.

"¢ Found even in ancient Egyptian mummies, the parasitic Guinea worm became the focus of a
global public health campaign in 1986; this species of parasite has

"¢ Being the focus of a global public health campaign since 1986 and found even in ancient
Egyptian mummies; the population of the parasitic Guinea worm has

"¢ Having been the focus of a global public health campaign in 1986, it was found even in ancient
Egyptian mummies; the frequency of the parasitic Guinea worm

"¢ Being found even in ancient Egyptian mummies and having been the focus of a global public
health campaign since 1986, the frequency of the parasitic Guinea worm

"¢ Having been found even in ancient Egyptian mummies and being the focus of a global public
health campaign since 1986, the parasitic Guinea worm species

OA is A. I chose the correct answer but I have a confusion about the usage of "having been"...does the usage of having been found implies that mummies were found even before 1986 ( answer choice E), if not then what does having been found implies here.

"having been.." is modifying "the parasitic Guinea worm species"

Hi rakeshd347,

For this SC, the primary rule is modification. The only answers that correctly present the modification are A and E.

Between those 2 answers, A presents a series of simple past events, while E presents some really "clunky" language (including the word "being", which tends to be incorrect).

Final Answer: A
