According to OG: Maybe and perhaps are interchangeable; perhaps is slightly more formal.
So, I don't think we can expect two options which differ only by these words.

This came up in a recent tutoring session for me: "maybe" and "may be" are not interchangeable, even though they clearly have the same root. So while "perhaps" is interchangeable with "maybe" and is slightly more formal, leave "may be" out of this.
