Help! Need to holistic quant study plan

by mill1469 » Mon Apr 15, 2013 6:38 pm
Hi Everyone,

I took the GMAT a few months ago and got a 660, which is just below my goal score of 680-700. However, when I took the GMAT I only scored in the 48% percentile on quant which was lower than all practice scores, but not terribly surprising given my struggle with quant overall. I feel that if I can improve the quant at least a bit (not looking for any miracles) while working on a few parts of verbal that always trick me I can definitely get to my goal score.

The question I want to ask is that I know most folks recommend really drilling in on one specific quant topic, mastering it, and moving on.... which sounds great in theory however every time I do this I'll do really well in that area for a week or so, but the longer I go without practicing it almost everyday, I feel like I forget a lot of the concepts, tricks, or they just take me too long to remember and aren't as automatic as I need to keep on pace. In analyzing my practice tests there isn't really one specific area that I do considerably worse in... it's more like I do "ok" in all the areas.

Does anyone have any study plans/tips that work in a more holistic manner in terms of concepts? I don't want to set a GMAT re-take date until I feel comfortable that I'm consistently scoring in the range I want for quant as I know that's my key area of weakness but I'd like to really focus the next 6-8 weeks into serious study so I can focus the summer on essays, school research, etc.

Any thoughts/tips would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks!
CM

I'm in the same boat as you. Scoring around 640-650 but my quant is at 50th percentile. If I can get quant up to 65th percentile, I'll be at a 680 which is good enough for me. Mill1469, what methods did you use to get your quant score up?
