(A) of four babies are now born to mothers aged thirty years or more, compared with just one of six born

(B) of four babies is now born to a mother whose age is thirty or older, compared to just one of six babies who were born

(C) baby in four are now born to mothers aged thirty or older, compared to just one in six

(D) baby in four is now born to a mother aged thirty or older, compared with just one in six

(E) baby in four is now born to mothers aged thirty years or more, compared to just one in six

IMO, It souds like B.

A and C are out cos of inccorrect use of "are"
D is out because of compare ..."with"..it should be "to"
for E , I have two concerns: 1. passive voice of "aged"..
2. "more" should be "older"

So, C is long but ok to me.

one of four babies means.... any one of the four babies .
one in four babies means ..... only one in four of them.

sentence compares the average number of babies as the mother reaches the age of 30. So by the time last baby is born (4th now , 6th in 1975) the mother age is 30 , so the author is talking about only the last born one and not the the other 3 babies.

the other error is compared to Vs compared with usage.

Use COMPARE TO for unlike things – to stress resemblence
 He compared her to a summer day

Use COMPARE WITH for like things – for similarities and differences
 The police compared the forged signature with the original


so the answer is D

A and C out subject verb agreement.
B and E out compare to is used to emphasize similarities.
