Optimization Problems

At the end of CH. 11 of MGMAT Equations, Inequalities, & VICs book, it mentions optimization problems.

Firstly, are those really tested? I've been through a several practice exam, and haven't seen one.

Secondly, I know calculus isn't part of the test, but aren't optimization problems better done with elementary calculus. Maybe because I know my calculus pretty well, I find it more accurate and easier. Will it be ok for me to use calculus, or do you think it will be better for me to stick with algebra?

I haven't seen optimization problems either, but the test doesn't know what technique you use. If you get the right answers with calculus, go ahead. That said, the test does not require knowledge of calculus so you should be able to handle any problems you encounter without it.
