Should be E, the zoo should follow the comma.

Can we flip the sentence and see if it makes sense..

C. The zoo is currently housing ......, rather than confining the animal....
This time ...or never..

C and E are close but i would go for E as C contains a extra Pronoun " It " which can refer to anything

SO E it is

There was another query which U had put up in some other question

The reason .......................... because

you had stated that for that particular thing to be right do you require " the reason why "

the sentence was wrong because reason and because covey the same thing and cause redundancy

Hi,

I would agree that the pronoun can be a little ambiguous. However, this it the best there is in the question. You should actually ran away from E as it houses one of the most strong SC problems: Verb agreement. Zoo is singular and the use of the pronoun "their" creates a major problem.

So, IMO C.

"housing" is a noun form and "houses" is a verb form
Morever, GMAT discourages use of -ing. So avoid -ing as much as possible.
IMO E

What is the antecedent of 'their' if E is correct.

"C" uses the pronoun "it" unnecessarily; thus, "E" is the answer.

Thanks everyone! and sorry for the late respond..
the OA is C, and here is the MGMAT explanation:

The sentence incorrectly uses "zoo's lions" as the subject of the opening modifier "rather than confining the animals to cages." This implies that the zoo's lions made the choice not to confine themselves to cages.

(A) This choice is the same as the original sentence.

(B) This choice is incorrect because it uses the wordy and awkward phrases "in which the animals currently live" and "in a mimic of their".

(C) CORRECT. The modifier "rather than confining the animals to cages" correctly describes the subject "the zoo."

(D) This choice incorrectly uses "zoo's lions" as the subject of the opening modifier "rather than confining the animals to cages." This implies that the zoo's lions made the choice not to confine themselves to cages.

(E) This choice is incorrect because "zoo" is singular but is matched with "their," a plural pronoun.
