Pls help with this.

A soccer store typically sells replica jerseys at a discount of 30 percent to 50 percent off list price. During the annual summer sale, everything in the store is an additional 20 percent off the original list price. If a replica jersey's list price is $80, approximately what percent of the list price is the lowest possible sale price?

Hi Amrabdelnaby,

This question is oddly worded, but the 'intent' of it is that second discount is supposed to be applied to the 'new' price (and not the 'original' price). In that way, this question is ultimately about step-by-step arithmetic.

Jersey Price = $80
Max 1st discount = 50%
Price after 1st discount = $80 - $80(.50) = $80 - $40 = $40

Additional discount = 20%
Price after 2nd discount = $40 - $40(.20) = $40 - $8 = $32

The lowest possible price, relative to the original price = 32/80 = 4/10 = 40%

Final Answer: D

Hi Rich,

this question is from Vertial's prep question bank.

The truth is, I felt that their questions are difficult to comprehend. I started to doubt that these type of questions - by this I mean wording - would face me in the GMAT offical exam; I have went through the entire book of the Official GMAT Guide and all the questions are very clear and their goal is very clear as well.

Pls advise me if you think that I should find another alternative that Verita's question Bank

Hi Amrabdelnaby,

There are plenty of different practice materials that you could be using. Thus, if you find that a particular resource is not to your liking, then you should use a different one.

1) How long have you been studying for the GMAT?
2) How have you been scoring on your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

Hi Rich,

I've been studying for about 3 months now, intensively.

My last score was 630 in Kaplan, and I am aiming for 760+

I will do another CAT exam on the 31st and will let you know the updates

If you've taken several CATs and scored around 630 each time, then taking another CAT in a couple of days will likely NOT end in a vastly better result.

1) How many CATs have you taken so far?
2) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

3) When are you planning to take the GMAT?

Hi Rich,

I have taken 2 CAT exams, scored 580 in the first, learnt some mistakes and then studied again and took the 2nd one after 6 days and scored 630.

I am planing to take the GMAT exam on the 12th, and I am totally dedicated to it, doing nothing else except studying.

I think it's also important to note than some, if not many of the mistake i've done in the quant section were reckless mistakes, so I am working on my concentration and focus now.

Both scores were around 50%

I also want to note that when I did the first 2 tests I was not prepared for the sentence correction part.

Now I have covered all the syllabus and will do another CAT tomorrow.

Will let you know the updates.

Hi amrabdelnaby,

If your score goal is really 760+, and you have just 2 weeks before you take the Official GMAT, then you have to consider paying the re-scheduling fee and pushing back your Test Date. While that idea probably does not make you 'happy', the reality is that you are far enough from your goal that you're unlikely to increase your score 130 points in 2 weeks.

You should still take your next CAT as planned. That next set of scores will help to define your progress and what you still need to work on.
