A and B can be ruled out on account of subject verb agreement error.
The subject difference (sing) cannot agree with verb depend (plu).

C - The clause after colon has to be an independent clause. Here, the subject is missing in seeing a positive turn of events as our just reward and a calamity as an undeserved happenstance.

E - Shifts meaning. The difference between fate and coincidence does not cause us to see a positive turn of events as... Our subjective interpretation of the difference between fate and coincidence is what makes us see a positive turn of events as...

D is right. OA please.

niksworth gave correct reasoning and answer. The OA for this question is D. We have a independent main clause that is modifying the clause before colon.

B has 2 errors -
1. subject verb agreement error - The subject difference (sing) cannot agree with verb depend (plu).
2. the clause after a colon has to be independent. You cannot have a coordinating conjunction after colon and before an independent clause.
