Common GMAT question - Can we generalize?

I have seen a few variations of this question throughout my GMAT preparation and the answer always seems to be E.

Can we generalize that if, if revenue = (units sold)(cost), and if we do not know the exact number of units sold or original cost in the first place, we can never calculate the percentage change in revenue?

SSY, how can u calculate that?
Suppose, no of sofas in last yr = x
So this year = 11x/10
And by statement - II, if precious cost was p now it is (p + 5). So how do u calculate the diff man as u dnt know the value of x and p?

Are u getting me, SSY?

Correct me If I am wrong
