Mrs. Lee - Problem solving???

by tahirb7 » Sun Jan 06, 2008 11:50 am
Am I completely retarded or is this answer wrong? It was one of the questions on the GMAT prep CAT. I got a 53Q, by the way on the prep CAT

"In May Mrs. Lee's earnings were 60 percent of the Lee family's total income. In June Mrs. Lee earned 20 percent more then in May. If the rest of the family's income was the same both months, then in June, Mrs. Lee's earnings were approximately what percent of the Lee family's total income."

Why is the answer not 72? This problem is driving me nuts.

Answer should be around 64%.

The key is "...rest of the family's income.." the total family income is not the same in May and June, only the rest of the family income. Got it?

Calista.

Yep, got it, thanks a bunch. 72/112 instead of 72/100
