Practice Tests (CAT) list

by synchrodestiny » Sat Jul 14, 2012 1:03 am
Hi guys, i have just started preparing for the GMAT 3 weeks ago and am picking up pace slowly but surely. Aiming for 740. Tst date is Oct 1. wanted some one to give me a list of practice tests i could start taking from now to assess my chances at various points inmy preparation. Any leads to any older post would also be helpful. How often should i take them and which are the most accurate? thanks guys.

If you're looking for free resources, many of the prep companies on this site offer a free one. Also, you can take the free official GMATPrep practices tests more than once.
Since the GMATPrep tests use official GMAT questions and the official GMAT scoring algorithms, they will provide the most accurate assessment of your skills.

I think it's a good idea to take a few practice tests throughout your preparation. This will help gauge your progress and start preparing you for the 4-hour mental marathon that is the GMAT. BTG's free 60-Day Study Guide (https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide) directs students to write at least 8 practice tests throughout the 2-month prep period.

Cheers,
Brent

I would suggest to start with GMATClub CATs.
In the middle of your preparation do one GMATPrep and one GMATFocus CATs.
Then proceed with MGMAT CATs.
At the end, do several GMATPrep and several GMATFocus CATs.

The most predictive are GMATPrep and GMATFocus so don't waste them early in your preparation because their problems are limited in number and once the problems start repeating, the test result looses predictive power since you know the solution/answer.

The optimal is doing 1-2 CAT's a week. The most important phase is to analyze your errors after the CAT, categorize them, find the reason for the error and watch out in subsequent tests for red flags in the problem indicating the same scenario.
