The data collected by weather airplanes that fly into the heart of a hurricane are useful mainly for gauging the storm's structure and strength, not for the speed and the path of their movement.

(A) not for the speed and the path of their movement
(B) not for the speed and path of its movement
(C) not the speed and path of its movement
(D) and not the speed and path of their movements
(E) and not for the speed and the path of its movements

OA is C.

Can anyone please explain me what "it" refers to in C ? If it refer to aeroplanes than it should be plural.

Note: Next time can you please underline the portion in question and use spoiler on the correct answer. Thanks.

As for your questions: The it refers to the hurrican, not to the airplanes. As indicated above in blue the storm's structure and strength is parallel to seed and path (of its movement).

Hope this helps. Please ask if you have further questions.
