like J.D. Salinger, Thomas pynchon has chosen a reclusive lifestyle, despite the influence his works have had on the world of literature.

A.like J.D. Salinger, Thomas pynchon has chosen
B.like J.D. Salinger, Thomas pynchon's choice has been
C.As J.D. Salinger, Thomas pynchon has chosen
D.As had J.D. Salinger, Thomas pynchon's choice has been
E.J.D. Salinger's choice,as Thomas pynchon's, has been

OA:
A.Wondering why it should not be C, are we not comparing actions (choosing)here?
A good rule of thumb is to use "like" when there isn't a verb that follows and "as" when there is a verb that follows. In this instance, we have "JD Salinger" without a verb, so we use "like."

Thanks Bill, certainly did not know that. Can you also throw a few examples where using "as" with a verb may be correct.Or such a sentence will always be wrong?
