Usage of 'one of'

Can someone please explain me the usage of 'one of' and the intricacies involved with its usage in GMAT?

Please explain the reasoning.
Some examples:

One of the person who fits/fits the game is/are Ram.

Ram is one of the person who fit/fits the game.

One of the contenders is/are not fit for the game.

One contender is/are not fit for the game.

...

...

Please add more if something strikes the mind.
