Intended primarily to stimulate family summer travel, the new airfare, which allows
both an adult and a child to fly for the price of one ticket, and also shortens the
advance-purchase requirement for family travel to a minimum of seven days rather than
fourteen.

IMO E-

correct idiom usage is '...seven days rather than fourteen'.Hence B and D are out.
C - Incorrectly uses 'that'.What does this 'that' refer to?

A -'....which allows both an adult....of one ticket' is a non-restrictive clause. So the correct sentence should read as '...the new airfare also shortens the...'
and not '...the new airfare and also shortens the...'

That leaves us with E.

Here are my two cents on it.
1. "and " is not needed as the structure of argument is
#Mod Clause , subject, Non Rest Mod , also verb ....
Here subject , verb is normal and not sub also verb
hence A and B are out.

between short and less -
less is used for non countable things - like less resistance,
short / long can be used for countable things -
short height ,
short requirement - in terms of number is days which is countable.
Hence E is the correct choice and parallel too.

I brought it down to D and E and ultimately selected D. What's the OA?
