The particular design of muscles and bones in the neck and limbs of the turtle allow that it can draw in its exposed parts such that an attacker can find nothing but hard shell to bite.

A. allow that it can draw in its exposed parts such that
B. allow it to draw in its exposed parts, and so
C. allows for it to draw in its exposed parts and that
D. allows that it can draw in its exposed parts, and so
E. allows it to draw in its exposed parts, so that

There is a divided opinion between C and E


Can one of the experts please provide their thoughts?

I am no expert, but I remember reading somewhere that the proper use of the idiom "so...that" is to place the "so" next to the word that needs to be intensified. This might be a reason for E not to be correct.

I went for C

Idiom: allows for (design allows for I think is idiomatic)


U r correct so (adjective) that is ok but not sure on so that

The slightly awkward thing about c is "and that" at the end.

I wish one of the experts can shed light on this usage in the example above.

I am more inclined towards E, although so that is not correctly used..
C is looking awkward when compared to E

C is out because it is awkward.The particular design ------of turtle allows for it

Thanks for that and you are correct, I checked up on one of the forums, it is so so X that Y.

Answer is C or D, since thanks to Vemuri E is wrong.

IMO, this sentence requires you to understand meaning (many GMAT questions do not)

Draw in exposed parts means that only the shell remains, the limbs are hidden

and that the attacker finds just the hard shell.

So the sentence makes sense if you go with C

I think E is the best Option.
D cannot be the answer as allow that is not idiomatic.

A and B are wrong because "The particular design" would take singular verb.

C. allows for it to draw in its exposed parts and that

"and that" is unidiomatic

D. allows that it can draw in its exposed parts, and so
E. allows it to draw in its exposed parts,
so that


Although "allows it to" seems good in E, "So that" is unidiomatic and hence the only option left is D.
trying for a perfect score... 800..

I came across this question I have my views regarding C & E.
C. allows for it to draw in its exposed parts and that



I find the bold phrase awkward.
E. allows it to draw in its exposed parts, so that
The only reason to eliminate E I found was the word SO THAT

Well, here is my take. So that is not always wrong. I googled the word and found the meaning as
“So that” is used as a subordinate clause to show purpose or to give an explanation

Just as BEING is not always incorrect, similarly so that is not always incorrect.

Given the context of the sentence, I find SO THAT fits perfectly here.

I would appreciate other's opinion.

The design allows the turtle or the design allows for the turtle??
