In the figure above, the two square regions have areas 16 and 25, respectively. What is the area of the shaded triangular region?

A. 6
B. 8
C. 9
D. 12
E. 15

OA A
Solution:

Since the triangle is a right triangle with hypotenuse = √25 = 5 and a leg √16 = 4, it must be a 3-4-5 right triangle. Therefore, the area of the triangle is ½ x 3 x 4 = 6.
