What is the value of tv/w?
(1) 7t = 6w and v=2w
(2) t/w = 6/7 and v/2 = 14

Hi Tmoni26,

A combination of 'math skills' and TESTing VALUES can help you to quickly answer this question.

We're asked for the value of (T)(V)/W

Fact 1: 7T = 6W and V = 2W

IF....
W = 1
V = 2
T = 6/7
The answer to the question is (12/7)/1 = 12/7

IF....
W = 2
V = 4
T = 12/7
The answer to the question is (48/7)/2 = 48/14 = 3 6/14
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

Fact 2: T/W = 6/7 and V/2 = 14

Since T/W = 6/7, we can substitute THAT ratio directly into the question.
V/2 = 14
V = 28
The answer to the question is (6)(28)/7 and that is the ONLY possible answer.
Fact 2 is SUFFICIENT.

Final Answer: B

Hi Rich,
Thanks

I got it wrong because in Statement 1, I automatically changed 7t = 6w to t/w = 6/7 and thought i had sufficiency.

Hi Tmoni26,

There's nothing wrong with taking that approach with Fact 1, BUT you still have to account for the value of "V" also (which we're told is twice the value of "W"). As the value of W changes, the answer to the question changes.

Hello Rich & Spencer,

Thanks alot for your input, I guess, i assumed w = 7, but did not take into consideration that t/w could as well be 12/14....

someday, i will be free....
