Average weight

by harsh.champ » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:12 pm
If the average weight of five friends A, B, C, D and E is 52 kg, then who is the heaviest among them?

I. A and E are neither the heaviest nor the lightest and only two friends among A, B, C, D and E have their weights more than the average.

II. B's weight is 40 kg, which is the lightest weight. The average of weight of D and E is 60 kg and the average weight of C and A is 50 kg.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

1. The statement is insufficient to conclude which one is the heaviest. A&E are ruled out, and 3 of A B C D E has less than 52kg weight

2. B's weight is 40 avg of D&E is 60 and avg of C&A = 50, the heaviest is one of D &E since the maximum weight C or A can have is 60 Kg - Insufficient

Combined A &E has less than 52 kgs D has the maximum weight

Sufficient

C
