Q. Ancient tradition credited the Athenian Thespis as having invented Athenian tragedy in 535 B.C. when he stepped out from the Dionysian chorus and sang a solo in character.

I don't know how to solve this one, can someone explain this one?

The best idea is to refer to the idioms

to credit with (something or doing something)
