The largest trade-book publisher in the United States has announced the creation of a new digital imprint division, under which it will publish about 20 purely digital works to be sold online as either electronic books or downloadable copies that can be printed upon purchase.

IMO A
because either X or Y is the correct idiom.

B , C, d are wrong because paralel of "either ...or"

why D is wrong?

@ gmat_perfect : What is your doubt ? One simple criterion is to remove based on idiom.

The intended meaning of sentence is -- a digital imprint divison is created and the divison will publish some works to be sold online . A is best construct to comunicate the same. Any question in particular ?
