Which of the following numbers is greater than four-fifths of the numbers but less than one-fifth of the numbers in the list above?

* (A) 45
* (B) 70
* (C) 71
* (D) 79 => correct
* (E) 81

Pls explain

Number should be greater than 4/5th and less than 1/5th of the list of numbers.
Numbers in Ascending order:
14,26,34,37,42,68,71,77,81,83
Total number of numbers = 10
4/5th of the list means 8 numbers. Hence number should be greater than 77
1/5th of the list is 2.. Hence number should be less than 81 [2 numbers are 81,83]
Pick D form the options.

Total =10 numbers

Greater than 4/5 of 10=8 numbers(ie) >8 numbers(77)

Lesser than 1/5 of 10=2 numbers(ie) <2 numbers(81,83)

77>x<81

14,26,34,37,42,68,71,77,81,83
total numbers = 10
2/5 of 10 = 8
1/5 pf 10 = 2

so the number should be greater than 8 numbers in the series and less 2 number in the series

the number should be less than 81 then only it will be less than 2 numbers in the series
and
the number must be greater than 77 in order to be greater than 8 numbers in the series, this gives us only one answer 79
