John contributes three times as much as Steve, who contributes half as much as Mary.
J:S:M = 3:1:2

The parts of the ratio sum to 6:
3+1+2 = 6
The price of the car is 4000 times greater:
6*4000 = 24000
Thus, the multiplier for the ratio is 4000:
J = 3*4000 = 12000
S = 1*4000 = 4000
M = 2*4000 = 8000

The trio buys the car and receives a 15% rebate.
how much more money does John receive back compared to Mary?

John's discount = 15% of 12000 = 1800
Mary's discount = 15% of 8000 = 1200
Difference = 1800-1200 = 600

The correct answer is B.
